The 4th of July may have come and gone, but the grilling is far from over.
Instead of a regular city council meeting, Longmont City Council will host an open forum tomorrow night. The rare opportunity offers locals the chance to interrogate councilmembers voice concerns on any topic to council for five minutes.
Longmont City Council last hosted an open forum on January 20 and only hosted one such meeting in all of 2025. The opportunity to speak for five minutes is also a rare one. In typical city council meetings, the public is limited to just three minutes.
Speak now:
Without a doubt, locals will pounce at the chance for five uninterrupted minutes of city council’s attention. A myriad of polarizing issues are top of mind for many locals, from taxes to surveillance cameras and open spaces. At the January 20 open forum, it was aircraft noise & pollution that dominated the discussion.
Up in the air:
Airport management has been an issue Longmont City Council has had to delicately dance around. Some of the recent headlines:
City council recently rejected an opportunity to support the Town of Superior in their fight against the Rocky Mountain Municipal Airport and intensifying aircraft noise.
City council delayed making a decision on whether to accept Federal Aviation Administration grants to fund the reconstruction of taxilanes at Vance Brand Municipal Airport.
