While most people are heading to the pool in August, others are focusing on shooting pool.
The Longmont-based pool team, named Castaways, is heading to Las Vegas this week to compete in the APA World Pool Championships for a shot at the $30,000 grand prize.
The 7-player squad was one of only a handful of Colorado teams, and the only from Longmont, who qualified for the tournament. Other tournament details:
The APA World Pool Championships is the largest pool tournament in the world. More than 1,900 teams from 49 U.S. states and four countries, including Canada and Japan, are competing.
Castaways is playing in the 8-ball division, which features over 800 teams.
Festivities begin with the opening ceremony tomorrow and competition kicks off the same evening, and continues through Sunday.
