🌎 Three Longmont high schoolers’ quest for golf glory begins Monday
The next Tiger Woods may not be in Colorado, but there is a Falcon with a shot at winning a state title.
And two Trojans, for that matter.
As the high school boys golf state championship approaches, two golfers from Longmont High School, and one from Skyline High School, qualified to compete for the crown. LHS will be represented by seniors Wyatt Bogue and Jayson Mitts, while SHS senior Zack Lacrosse is the lone Falcon competing on Monday.
What you need to know:
All three are ranked in the top half of all golfers in 4A Colorado. Bogue is the highest at #30, Lacrosse is close behind at #33, then Mitts follows at #41. 84 golfers statewide qualified for the final.
Lacrosse has finished in the top 10 of the state the last two years (6th in 2025, 8th in 2024). He qualified for state in his freshman year, too, but finished 36th. Not bad for a freshman.
Bogue also has a top-10 finish. He placed 9th in 2025. He qualified for state his sophomore year, but finished 40th.
Mitts is making his fourth appearance in the state finale, but his best finish to date is 46th place in 2025 and 2024.
Silver Creek High School golfers are a rare omission from the state championship — Since 2010, a Raptor representative has qualified for the event every year.
In fact, the Raptors have done much more than qualify over the years: They won the team title in 2011, Jackson Solem won the individual state title in 2014, and Ben Harding finished third in Colorado in 2021.
Fun fact:
Solem went on to play golf for the University of Denver, turned pro in 2022, earned membership on the PGA Tour Canada in 2023, and won the Rocky Mountain open in 2023.

Mayor proclaims October 4 as “Electrify Longmont Day”: Last night, Mayor Susie Hidalgo-Fahring, along with the rest of Longmont City Council, officially proclaimed this Sunday to be known as “Electrify Longmont Day.” It’s part of the city’s efforts to boost sustainability across Longmont and transition homes, vehicles and buildings away from fossil fuels and toward a “clean, healthy, and fully electric future,” a Longmont City Council agenda document stated. The proclamation is a prelude for the Electrify Longmont Fair, which takes place Sunday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Boulder County Fairgrounds.
Slice House to open Saturday: After delaying its September 12 grand opening, Slice House by Tony Gemignani announced it will officially open for the Longmont community this Saturday. The pizzeria didn’t specify a reason for the delay, only stating “We’re putting the finishing touches on everything and making sure that when we open our doors, we’re serving you the Slice House experience exactly the way it should be.” Slice House is located at 725 Harvest Moon Dr. by Costco.
Longmont Public Media is looking for a new leader: LPM is launching a search for a new executive director as the incumbent, Sergio Angeles, prepares to step into a new role as LPM’s Director of Operations. Angeles, a co-founder of Longmont Public Media, has held the role of executive director since January 2020. The LPM Board of Directors expects a replacement to begin by March 1, 2027.

Longmont park to receive long overdue makeover

Renovations are on the way to Hover Acres Neighborhood Park.
The City of Longmont announced yesterday plans to overhaul aging facilities and infrastructure at the northwest Longmont park. City officials want Hover Acres to be more water-efficient, easier to navigate, and, at the end of the day, more fun — a big statement for a park that already has a crawdad exploration area.
Other planned upgrades:
Playground and swings will be replaced
Picnic shelter and restroom will be updated.
Improving walkways and refreshing landscaping.
Adding new amenities will also be considered based on community feedback (more on that below).
But before any construction can take place, the city is offering three opportunities for locals to help shape the future of Hover Acres. The first is a community meeting next Wednesday from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Hover Acres picnic shelter. A second meeting will happen the following Saturday from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
You can also provide input through an online survey available through October 12.
The city aims for park improvements to be completed by the end of next year.

Today’s Longmont weather forecast predicts a cloudy day with a 30% chance of rain mainly after noon, per the National Weather Service. Temperatures will reach a high of 66 degrees and a low of 51.
