Happy hump day, Longmont! If you’re on the fence about calling in to work, this would be the day to do it. The National Weather Service says there’s a 100% chance of rain today, throughout the day. I haven’t been this confident about a shower since I took an all-day swamp tour in Shreveport.
Today — Colorado’s top brass is getting involved in Longmont’s fight against cellular dead zones, a beer festival to forget for Longmont breweries, and one Longmont facility’s role in helping the U.S. Space Force.
Let’s dive in.

Representative Joe Neguse speaks at a Longmont town hall
You’ve never had a better excuse for not responding to the work group chat.
As complaints about rampant cellular network outages in Longmont — and across Boulder County — continue to mount, local and national leadership is stepping in.
Yesterday, Congressman Joe Neguse and Senators John Hickenlooper & Michael Bennet sent a letter to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr urging the Federal Communications Commission, as well as the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, to meet with cell carriers immediately to find a solution.

The outages have reportedly been spiking since late 2024, when Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T were ordered to modify their signals received within the Table Mountain Radio Quiet Zone — an area of land where a federal government research facility studies radio waves. As required by law, that facility has a 50-mile radius that limits external radio signals.
Since then, at least 100 formal complaints have been filed with the FCC, as well as countless others on social media and with Longmont City Council. In the last two weeks, news coverage of the issue has skyrocketed, too.
Longmont Mayor Susie Hidalgo-Fahring also got involved. At last Tuesday’s city council meeting, she reassured residents that action is being taken. She mentioned she is in ongoing conversation with federal agencies, private carriers, and staff from Neguse, Bennet, and Hickenlooper, as well as Boulder County Commissioner Ashley Stolzmann.
The mayor also noted that congressional teams planned to meet directly with T-Mobile “tomorrow or the next day” to discuss a path forward.
“If I could get out there and literally lift up the tower and move it over, I would,” Hidalgo-Fahring said.

No medals for Longmont breweries at Great American Beer Festival

Photo © Brewers Association
For the first time since 2007, Longmont breweries went home empty-handed at the Great American Beer Festival.
Out of 1300 breweries competing in the GABF, 243 from across the United States won 336 medals. The four Longmont breweries participating — Bootstrap Brewing Company, Left Hand Brewing Company, Dry Dock Brewing Company, and Wibby Brewing — weren’t one of them. In all, Longmont had 18 beers up for judgment. The snub is a historic one, especially for a city whose breweries have won 58 medals since scoring its first in 1994.
Left Hand dominant:
Left Hand has won more than half of Longmont’s medals — 32, in all. In fact, it’s the fifth-most decorated in all of Colorado. Only The Sandlot Brewery (47), Coors Brewing Company (43), Rock Bottom Brewery (36), and New Belgium Brewing Company (33) have more.
Prior to 2026, Left Hand had won a medal in four consecutive years, including two golds: the Breakfast in Brussels (Barley Wine) in 2025 and the Sawtooth Ale (Amber) in 2023.
The Sawtooth is Left Hand’s most decorated beer: It’s won 7 GABF medals, four of which are gold.
Only four times since 1994 has a Longmont brewery failed to win at least one medal: 2002, 2005-2007.
Besides Left Hand, Oskar Blues Brewery and Boostrap have won the most medals in Longmont with eight. Pumphouse is next with five medals.
Fun fact:
A silver lining for Left Hand — They may only have one GABF medal since 2025, but they’ve acquired two breweries in the same timeframe: Dry Dock and Bootstrap.
Tongue-in-cheek fun fact:
It’s unclear whether the merger has improved beer quality. Pre-merger, Dry Dock and Bootstrap had combined for 35 medals (27 from Dry Dock). Post-merger, zero.
